Benefits 101: Understanding How Our Plans Work

Here’s an overview of some key plan terms you may see when seeking and paying for care.
Annual deductible:
The amount you must pay for eligible covered services each calendar year before the Plan will begin paying benefits (for most services). There is one annual deductible that applies to all those enrolled under your plan.
Co-insurance:
A fixed percentage that you are required to pay for eligible covered services (after you meet the annual deductible, up to the co-insurance maximum). The co-insurance amount under the GE Aerospace medical plans is generally 20% of allowed amounts when you stay in-network and 40% of allowed amounts when you are out-of-network.
Co-pay:
A fixed amount you pay for eligible covered services or prescription drugs, generally at the time you receive the services.
Medical plan administrator:
Your medical plan administrator - also referred to as your plan carrier or health insurance provider - may vary depending on your zip code. Be sure to review your medical plan ID card for details about your plan administrator, including important numbers for questions and additional support.
Out-of-pocket maximum:
This is the most you’ll pay in a calendar year for eligible covered services, whether received in-network or out-of-network. It includes the total of your annual deductible plus your co-insurance maximum. Once your out-of-pocket expenses reach this combined limit, your health plan covers 100% of eligible costs for the rest of the calendar year.
Payroll contributions:
The amount you pay, pre-tax, per pay period for your coverage. You continue to pay contributions even after you’ve met your plan’s annual deductible.
Preventive care:
Annual preventive visits, including women’s health preventive visits and cancer screenings, are covered at 100% in-network for all plan options.
Medical
GE Aerospace offers three medical plans to choose from:
- Option 1
- Option 2 with a Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Option 3 with a Health Savings Account (HSA)
How the medical plans are the same:
- All offer a broad range of coverage (doctor visits, surgery and hospitalization, behavioral health and substance use treatment, and more)
- Cover preventive care at 100% (when using in-network providers)
- Include prescription drug coverage (for generic, brand-name, and specialty medications filled through retail pharmacies or mail order)
- Have an out-of-pocket maximum, which puts a limit on the amount you’ll pay for covered services each calendar year

Benefits Tip!
When seeking preventive care, let your provider know this is a preventive visit/screening or annual physical during your appointment to ensure the visit is billed as preventive care.
Prescription Drug
If you enroll in a GE Aerospace medical plan, you’ll receive your prescription drug benefits through OptumRx.
Note: You must fill your prescriptions at an in-network pharmacy for your prescription to be covered. There are no out-of-network pharmacy benefits.

For additional support:
- Call the OptumRx Pharmacy line: 1-800-509-9891
- Reach out to a Health Coach: 1-866-272-6007
- Visit OptumRx’s GE Aerospace landing page for a list of eligible drugs, the in-network pharmacy locator, a pricing and coverage tool, and more.

Disability Benefits
Short-Term Disability
Short-Term Disability benefits are provided through the Salary Continuation Program (SCP), which offers up to 26 weeks of pay at 100% of your Normal Straight-Time Annual Earnings, minus any state-mandated benefits for employees working in applicable states. To qualify, you must be under the care of a medical professional, and your disability must be certified and approved by our Leave Administrator, Sedgwick.
Long-Term Disability
You can enroll in Long-Term Disability benefits through the Long-Term Disability Income Plan (LTDIP), with proof of good health, which provides financial support if you’re unable to work due to an approved illness or injury and have been on continuous leave for more than 26 weeks. Under the LTDIP, you elect a percentage of pay to receive during your disability, and this percentage also determines the amount deducted from your paycheck on a post-tax basis.
Need to open a disability claim? Contact Sedgwick at 1-800-392-0789 or open a claim online here. For more details, view the Your Benefits Handbook on HR Central > Health & Insurance > Your Benefits Handbook.

Benefits Tip!
Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the Salary Continuation Program, which is 100% company-paid, unless contributions are required by state law. If you’d like to enroll in LTDIP benefits, you can do so during Annual Enrollment or following a qualifying life event.
