Medical Plans – Kaiser Permanente
Kaiser Permanente is offered as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan for team members living in California, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Georgia, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. With an HMO:
- You must use Kaiser providers and facilities for your care. Out-of-network care is not covered unless you are formally referred by Kaiser.
- You must choose a primary care physician (PCP) within Kaiser who coordinates your care
- Referrals from your PCP are usually required to see specialists
- Care is delivered within Kaiser’s system, so your doctors, pharmacy, labs, and medical records are connected in one place for convenience
- Emergency care is always covered worldwide, 24/7, with no referral needed
- This model often results in lower out-of-pocket costs and a more seamless experience, but it does limit you to Kaiser’s provider network in the states listed above
