Disability Insurance Options Offered Through The Hartford

Disability coverage helps replace your income if you cannot work due to a non-job-related illness or injury.

SHORT-TERM DISABILITY (STD)

NVA offers two STD plans to help protect your income when you need it most with no medical questions, evidence of insurability, or eligibility review required.

You will automatically receive the STD Core Plan at no cost to you. If you would like additional protection, you may elect to enroll in the STD Buy-Up Plan.

STATE-SPECIFIC COVERAGE*

  • If you live or work in CA, CO, CT, HI, MA, NJ, NY, OR, RI, or WA, the state program pays benefits first. Your STD Plan works alongside the state program to help ensure you receive the maximum weekly benefit available to you.

— For example, if the state pays $150 per week and the STD Core Plan benefit is $200 per week, the STD Core Plan pays the additional $50.

  • The Hartford will continue to administer state disability claims for team members working in NY, NJ, and MA.
  • For all other states, team members will continue to file claims directly with their state agency.

*Applicable states as of June 2026

VOLUNTARY LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD)

  • Pays 60% of monthly earnings, up to $10,000/month
  • Benefits start after 90 days and last while you are disabled, up to your Social Security Normal Retirement Age

Note: New hires can enroll with guaranteed LTD coverage. Enrolling later may require Evidence of Insurability (EOI). Team members who did not enroll when first eligible are subject to EOI during this enrollment period.
