How to Enroll

Enrolling in Coverage

You may enroll in or elect certain benefits only during Annual Enrollment, unless you have a qualified life event or are a new hire. New hires can enroll in coverage within 30 days from their hire date. If you have a qualified life event (e.g., marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, or loss of coverage elsewhere), you must make changes within 30 days of the event. The changes must be consistent with the qualified change in status you experience.

Below is your checklist for enrolling in benefits:

1. To learn more about your benefits programs for 2022, join us at the Virtual Benefits Fair on October 19 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. ET.

2. ALEX, our digital decision support tool, can help you make decisions about medical plans, as well as other health, welfare and retirement plan benefits. Check out new features such as the chatbot and new decision support modules for dental, vision, retirement, life, disability, accident, EAP, and pharmacy. Ask ALEX by clicking here.

3. Select a medical plan: The HSA Plan, the PPO 90 and the EPO are all offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA). Each plan comes with comprehensive prescription drug coverage administered by Express Scripts, and can be paired with a tax-advantaged savings account. Learn more about the different plans in this Digital Annual Enrollment Guide (Staying Healthy tab) or in the Medical Guide.

  • Elect new contribution amounts for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). You’ll need to take action if you’d like to contribute to a Health Care and/or Dependent Care FSA or an HSA contribution if you are enrolled in an HSA medical plan in 2022. For HSAs, keep an eye out for an email from Fidelity to make elections in December 2021.

4. Go online to the Biogen Benefits Enrollment site from an internal computer or by visiting biogen.okta.com from any computer or mobile device and accessing the ‘Biogen Benefits Enrollment’ tile.

5. Determine which tier of coverage is right for you and your family. The four tiers of coverage include:

  • Self Only
  • Self + Spouse/Domestic Partner
  • Self + Child(ren)
  • Self + Family

6. Check that your premium adjustments are correct. To enroll in medical coverage, you’ll need to verify whether you and/or your covered spouse/domestic partner use tobacco products and if you’re covering a spouse/domestic partner who has access to other health insurance.

7. Confirm your beneficiaries. Remember to identify beneficiaries on all applicable benefits.

8. Complete the online affidavits on the Biogen Benefits Enrollment site to ensure the Tobacco User and Spouse/Domestic Partner Premium Adjustments are applied correctly. You can learn more by searching “premium adjustments” on BiogenCONNECT.
